Garage floor paints and sealers formulated from 1K water based acrylic resins offer many advantages to the DIY market over 2K water or solvent based products[1]. They are easy to apply, environmentally friendly, cost effective, and produce non-yellowing protective films with good resistance to abrasion. However, 1K acrylics in general do suffer from poor wet adhesion when exposed to standing water, chemical/stain resistance and poor hot tyre pick-up[2]. In this paper, a new 1K water based acrylic resin is presented that overcomes many of the issues associated with other commercially available 1K water based concrete sealers and paints available on the market today.
